Design/Build 3,000 Columbarium Niches Location: Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira NY. Client: Eagle Design Inc. Owner: National Cemetery Administration
The 10.5-acre Woodlawn National Cemetery located in Elmira, New York is known for containing the graves of confederate soldiers. The Cemetery has been in operation since the Civil War. Woodlawn National Cemetery was closed to new burials until this Columbarium project was completed in 2005. The concept for the design was to create new columbarium walls along the perimeter of the property which backed-up to residential properties. The five high columbarium wall created a visual and sound barrier for the cemetery and the neighboring residents. The adjacent public Cemetery contains the grave site of Mark Twain.
