The Hill at Whitemarsh is a Continuing Care Retirement Community located on 95.8 acres within Whitemarsh Township, Montgomery County. The project is designed to preserve open space and scenic vistas, while complementing the area’s rich and varied architectural styles. The architecture and site planning draw inspiration from nearby historic Chestnut Hill. CVDA was hired by the architectural firm EGA of Boston Massachusetts to assist in the site planning and develop a landscape architectural philosophy that would enhance the Chestnut Hill theme for the project. The firm prepared presentations that illustrated how the vistas of open space would be preserved while screening neighboring development. The landscape design incorporated best management practices in order to preserve water quality and promote groundwater recharge. Native plant species were used and the open space was restored to meadows to reduce site lawn mowing. Individual landscaping plans were prepared for the 83 Villas and for 12 themed gardens around the main building.
