Academy of the New Church

 

As the Academy of the New Church and Bryn Athyn College have expanded it became necessary to renovate and expand the campus dining facilities.  The dining facility contains student activities areas, the health center and delivery/service functions.  Utilities adjacent to the building and required utilities for the building were rebuilt. The elevations of the utilities, accessible access to the building and service access for deliveries constrained the grading and landscaping of the site. The project also tested the new campus standards for site lighting, paving and site furniture.  The concept for the project was to create a focal point of the campus and a terminus for the Academy of the New Church’s quadrangle.

 

 

Renovation of the front of Benade Hall included replacement of an outdated and architecturally incompatible ramp, renovation of the steps, front walkway and landscape. By introducing Garaventa outdoor lift for ADA accessibility, CvDA was able to eliminate long ramps and develop the front entrance that complements old-world architecture. Natural stone masonry and hand-carved limestone details helped to integrate the new addition with the historic structure. Work also included the renovation of the walks in front of the building around the flagpole.

 

 

In addition to the two previously mentioned project at the Academy of the New Church, Carter van Dyke Associates has also completed several other projects at this location. These include projects at the New Athletic Fields, De Charms and Pitcairn Halls, and a new entrance at the academy.
